Putin, Raisi agree on further coordination between Russia, Iran in BRICS, SCO — Kremlin

Iran became a full member of BRICS on January 1, 2024

MOSCOW, March 19. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi have discussed cooperation in BRICS and the SCO in a telephone conversation, the Kremlin’s press service has said.

"It was agreed to further coordinate actions by Russia and Iran on multilateral platforms, including within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS group, which Iran has joined as a full-fledged participant," the news release reads.

Iran became a full member of BRICS on January 1, 2024. Tehran had submitted its application for membership in June 2022.

On July 4, 2023, at the 23rd meeting of the SCO Council of the Heads of State, Iran became a ninth full member of the organization. Tehran applied for joining the SCO in 2008. In September 2021, the procedure of its admission to the group was launched, and in 2022 a memorandum was signed on the obligations of the Iranian side in connection with joining the association.
