MOSCOW, March 15. /TASS/. Almost two-thirds of Russians that registered to cast their ballots in the country’s presidential election via the Internet have already submitted their votes, the Russian Digital Development Ministry said.
That’s more than 3 million people, or 65% of those who signed up for this type of voting, the ministry said on Telegram. The number reported by the ministry about three hours earlier was 50%.
"The e-voting platform was occasionally hit by cyberattacks throughout the day. The system successfully handled the workload. We continue to be in control of the situation," Deputy Digital Development Minister Oleg Kachanov said in the statement on Telegram.
Russia is holding a presidential election from March 15-17. This is the first such election where votes can be cast for three days and be submitted online remotely. The e-voting system is available in about one-third of Russian regions. Four candidates are vying for the top office: Vladislav Davankov, Nikolay Kharitonov, Vladimir Putin and Leonid Slutsky.
