MOSCOW, December 13. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov advised UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to support Russia’s initiative to convene a conference with the five permanent UN Security Council members and players in the Middle East on Gaza.
"No doubt, such an organization as the United Nations should play a leading role in convening such a meeting," he said, as he emphasized the need for the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to take part. "I expect that the UN chief will be in a position to come up with such an initiative," Lavrov added.
The continued injustice toward the Palestinian people who were promised a state back in 1948 "encourages major terrorist and extremist sentiments," he explained. "This has at least enabled terrorists to use this dissatisfaction among Palestinians and other Arab nations to recruit more supporters of armed combat and to establish terror structures," Lavrov concluded.
