Kiev backtracks on its proposals at negotiations, stages provocations — Lavrov

The opinions of progress in the Russian-Ukrainian talks were shared during the talks with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani

MOSCOW, April 7. /TASS/. Kiev departs from its own proposals at negotiations that were welcomed by Moscow and stages more provocations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a news conference following talks with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani in Moscow on Thursday.

"We shared opinions of progress in the Russian-Ukrainian talks and drew attention to the latest incidents that came to light over the past few days in which the Ukrainian side began to backtrack on its own proposals that had been welcomed by and large and to stage more provocations, like the one in Bucha, and the absolutely outrageous atrocities caught on camera, showing what exactly the Nazi battalions Azov and others were doing to Russian prisoners of war," he said.

Lavrov briefed his Bahraini counterpart on the special operation in Ukraine, expressing gratitude to Manama for its balanced and consistent position. He pointed out that the King of Bahrain, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, had put forward an initiative for additional efforts to promote a peace settlement.

"These initiatives stem from the understanding of the common tasks of ensuring reliable and indivisible security on the entire European continent," he noted. "It is on this track, I believe, that we should proceed with our further work in parallel with settling the situation in Ukraine in line with the initiatives that Russia has put forward and which should form the basis of negotiations, while also keeping in mind the global picture, which largely contains answers to the questions about the causes of the current unhealthy situation in Europe.".
