Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold a meeting with a delegation of the Syrian Negotiations Committee headed by Nasr al-Hariri on October 26, Russian Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told reporters, adding that the parties would discuss the situation in the Syrian province of Idlib, the separation of opposition members from terrorists and the formation of a Syrian constitutional committee.
"We will hold thorough consultations with them and discuss many issues, including the constitutional committee, the ceasefire, the situation in Idlib and the implementation of the Russian-Turkish memorandum adopted in Sochi on September 17 [which concerns the setup of a demilitarized buffer zone along the line of contact between Syrian opposition units and terrorists from the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra terror groups outlawed in Russia - TASS], as well as the steps our Turkish partners have been taking and their obligations under the memorandum, the return of Syrian refugees and the reconstruction of the Syrian economy," the senior Russian diplomat said.
According to Bogdanov, "important and meaningful consultations will take place tomorrow." "We always point out that these efforts are based on the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254, which covers all the aspects of the Syria issue," he noted.
