Russia, China still discussing abolition of import duties on Russian coal — Deputy PM

The Energy Ministry expects that supplies from Russia to China will return to a level of at least 100 million tons from 2025

MOSCOW, May 19. /TASS/. Russia and China continue to discuss the abolition of import duties on Russian coal, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told reporters.

"Not yet, this process is being discussed. As part of the negotiations, it implies abolishing the duty that was introduced two years ago," he said, answering the question of whether the parties had agreed to abolish import duties on coal.

In September 2024, in an interview with TASS, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilyov said that coal exports from Russia to China in the first half of the year fell by 8%, to 45.5 million tons. However, the Energy Ministry expects that supplies will return to a level of at least 100 million tons from 2025.
