MOSCOW, March 7. /TASS/. The summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) will take place in the South Korean city of Gyeongju on October 31 - November 1, Marat Berdyev, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry for APEC issues, said on his Telegram channel.
"The APEC summit in Gyeongju is scheduled for October 31 - November 1," he wrote.
At an event gathering APEC high officials the Russian delegation stressed the importance for South Korea to keep a constructive and unbiased line as the APEC chair, avoiding politicized approaches, Berdyev added. "We gave a tough assessment to Australia’s destructive display," he noted.
APEC is a regional intergovernmental forum that was established in 1989. Its main objectives are to strengthen economic integration, expand trade, and increase employment in the region.
APEC includes 19 economies and two Chinese territories - Hong Kong and Taiwan, therefore APEC members are usually referred to as "economies." The secretariat, headquartered in Singapore, performs administrative and technical functions. Russia joined APEC in 1998.
