Russia’s labor efficiency to increase by 20% by 2020 — PM

Mikhail Mishustin said that the pace of Russian economic development depends on the speed of labor efficiency growth with the issue being particularly urgent because of the labor shortage

MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. Russia’s labor productivity should grow by 20% in 6 years, said Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a specialized strategic session.

"We expect that as a result of [the measures], labor productivity in Russia will increase by more than 20% in 6 years. These are the targets," he said.

Mishustin reiterated that about 7,000 manufacturing, trading, agriculture, construction, and logistics companies joined the national Labor Productivity project. Over 100,000 employees, including those from the regions, were trained in lean manufacturing and modern management practices. About 5,500 organizations increased their profits by over 430 billion rubles, and about 1,500 companies entered new markets.

Now the work continues under the national project Efficient and Competitive Economy launched in January 2025. "It has allocated a corresponding federal project, for which about 30.5 billion rubles will be allocated over 6 years, of which about 4.8 billion rubles in 2025," the prime minister said.

He said it is important to implement and disseminate proven mechanisms for helping organizations, provide businesses with reliable tools that will increase productivity and optimize all internal processes. All this has to be done taking into account the needs of specific sectors of the economy, Mishustin said.

"It is necessary to identify priority areas and companies where productivity growth has the most tangible effects on the economy, and, accordingly, develop new solutions for them, adapt the existing support measures to their needs. Here, of course, the relevant ministries and departments have a key role. Industry competence centers should be established in each of them to carry out such tasks," the prime minister said.

Innovations and qualifications

Mishustin said that the pace of Russian economic development depends on the speed of labor efficiency growth with the issue being particularly urgent because of the labor shortage.

"This is why we need to ensure an integrated approach without limiting to the activities of the federal project and create conditions for enterprises to introduce effective technologies, innovations, advanced equipment, modern software products, and robotization of production," he said. Also, he continued, it is necessary to expand opportunities for professional development of specialists, improving their professional skills. "This takes joint work of the government, regions, business, and the active involvement of state corporations," Mishustin concluded.
