MOSCOW, January 11. /TASS/. Container traffic over the Russian Railways network increased by 14.1% in 2023 compared with 2022 to 7.438 mln TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units), the Russian railroad monopoly reported.
"In January-December 2023, 7.438 mln laden and empty container TEU were carried in all kinds of services over the network of Russian Railways, which is 14.1% higher than in 2022. In particular, 3 mln TEU were shipped in the domestic traffic (+18.1%). The number of laden containers shipped in all kinds of services rose by 16.7% to 5.437 mln TEU (76.1 mln tons of cargoes carried, +14%)," the report said.
The largest volumes were registered for chemicals (800,700 TEU), timber cargoes (597,200 TEU), cars and their components (498,500 TEU), metal goods (419,000 TEU), the company said.
Meanwhile the increase was the highest in container traffic of grain (2.6-fold growth), milling products (2.3-fold increase), cars and components (2.2-fold growth), fertilizers (2.2-fold rise), according to the report.
