HAIKOU, January 22. /TASS/. Hainan's resort city of Sanya has the second highest hotel bookings in the country for the upcoming Lunar New Year weekend, which falls on February 12 this year, reported www.hinews.cn citing the data provided by the leader of the online travel industry in China Ctrip.
Shanghai topped the top 10 cities for this indicator. Sanya, Beijing, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Dali, Shenzhen and Chongqing follow in popularity. At the same time, the share of reservations in five- and four-star hotels, according to the company, amounted to about 66.8% of the total number of pre-orders in these cities.
Hainan's resorts are very popular with Chinese and foreign tourists during the traditional New Year holidays celebrating Chunjie (Spring Festival, Chinese New Year). It is expected that interest in this area among the Chinese this year will be even stronger in the context of the coronavirus pandemic and the existing travel difficulties.
By 2025, the Chinese government intends to create an "international center for tourism and consumption" on Hainan. In order to do so, the "Eastern Hawaii" with their unique natural landscapes, thick rainforests and great climate will establish a developed network of hotels, which blend perfectly with white sandy beaches stretching along the coastline. The combination of an exotic subtropical nature and a modern eco-friendly infrastructure will boost tourist inflow to the island from the most distant parts of the world.
