Russia needs capabilities to counter Western cognitive warfare in cyberspace — researcher

Igor Kalyayev pointed to Ukraine as an example of how the West changed a country’s mentality within less than a generation

MOSCOW, March 13. /TASS/. Igor Kalyayev, a leading researcher of artificial intelligence at the Russian Academy of Sciences, said the country should turn its attention to building capabilities that will allow it to counter Western cognitive warfare in cyberspace.

"Currently, the worldwide web of the Internet is becoming the main battlefield of cognitive warfare, and therefore it is extremely important to start thinking right now about creating capabilities of cognitive warfare on the Internet," he said in an interview with TASS.

According to the researcher, countries that are unfriendly toward Russia are already engaged in research in this area. He pointed to Ukraine as an example of how the West changed a country’s mentality within less than a generation.

"Unfortunately, it must be admitted that in this matter we are so far significantly behind the countries that are unfriendly toward us, as they are already very busy doing this work," he said.
