Kalashnikov to complete construction of plant in Venezuela

The press service of the concern reported at the end of May that Kalashnikov faced difficulties in arranging supplies required to complete the rifle-making facility

ST. PETERSBURG, June 17. /TASS/. Kalashnikov plans to finish the construction of a rifle-manufacturing plant in Venezuela, President of the gun producer, Alan Lushnikov, said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Friday.

"We will complete the construction of the plant in Venezuela," he said.

The press service of the concern reported at the end of May that Kalashnikov faced difficulties in arranging supplies required to complete the rifle-making facility in Venezuela. In this respect, there are risks that the production of rifles in the country would not be launched this year. Russia’s state arms exporter, Rosoboronexport, is currently tackling the issue, the press service noted.

Last October, the concern said, during the SITDEF 2021 international defense technology show in Lima, that the plant to produce rifles from the 100 series would be opened in Venezuela shortly. In turn, Adan Chavez, the elder brother of the country's late President Hugo Chavez, said in October 2021 that the construction of the rifle-manufacturing plant in the country was expected to be finished in the second half of 2022.
