BRUSSELS, March 20. /TASS/. Diplomats from several European Union countries have privately criticized top EU diplomat Kaja Kallas’s proposal for a new tranche of financial aid to Ukraine worth 40 billion euros, Politico reports, citing sources.
According to the media outlet, "some complained they hadn’t been consulted, and others are concerned about the proposal to base contributions on gross national income." One of the diplomats described the plan as "botched."
Politico writes that the plan will not be approved at the European Council summit set to take place in Brussels on March 20.
Earlier, Kallas proposed a 40 billion euro aid plan for Ukraine, which is based on Kiev’s needs and suggests that EU countries’ shares will depend on their abilities. Kallas has already admitted that the EU is facing numerous issues regarding the approval of the plan. The project is expected to include the procurement of two million shells for Kiev in 2025 and the priority supplies of air defenses. Kallas expects to raise about two billion euros out of the 40 billion through the 2025 reinvestment of Russia's frozen assets. The plan failed to be approved at a European Council meeting in Brussels on March 17.
