BRUSSELS, November 29. /TASS/. Josep Borrell, the retiring EU diplomatic chief whose term of office ends on December 1, has called on the Western leaders not to permit the consolidation of the whole world against the West, admitting that he failed to cope with this task.
"The BRICS meeting in Kazan, Russia, at the invitation of Vladimir Putin in October 2024 was another wake-up call. We imperatively must succeed in preventing the solidification of the 'Rest against the West' alliance, but I have to admit that at the end of my mandate, this is still a 'work in progress'," Borrell wrote in the latest edition of his regular blog, uploaded to the official website of the EU External Action Service.
Borrell once again tried to portray Russia as an "imperialist" power that allegedly poses "an existential threat" to the EU, if the EU wishes to achieve victory in Ukraine. Borrell admitted that at the head of European diplomacy he had not only failed to isolate Russia, but also that "a significant number of countries in the Global South" shared Russia's position on Ukraine, which seriously weakened the EU’s strategic position.
Borrell also called on the EU to "learn to speak the language of power" and to use its economic relations to achieve political goals and to actively expand cooperation with "resource-rich countries <…> to secure the supply chain for key resources."
