TBILISI, November 26. /TASS/. Dialogue between the South Caucasus republic of Georgia and its European partners on the country's path to EU membership should not be considered on a take-it-or-leave-it basis, Maka Bochorishvili, a candidate for the post of Georgian Foreign Minister, stated.
"Of course, we need to establish a dialogue with our partners to achieve the ultimate goal [EU membership], which will enable Georgia to fully enter the EU without any problems. The sides should speak a language other than that of ultimatums. The parties need to find constructive approaches to all pressing issues," Bochorishvili said, speaking at a joint meeting of parliamentary committees on the approval of Georgia’s new government.
She also expressed hope for Georgia's future active and fruitful cooperation with the newly formed structures of the European Commission on achieving EU membership.
Georgia’s relations with the US, as well as with the EU, turned sour in the wake of the foreign agents law passed by the Georgian parliament in May. The EU has repeatedly urged Tbilisi to reject the law, but leaders of the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party insisted that its purpose was to ensure transparency in financial flows to non-governmental organizations, some of which were accused of attempting to stage a revolution in the country. EU leaders have repeatedly stated that the process of Georgia's integration into the EU has been suspended. Moreover, the country may regress and lose its visa-free regime with the EU.
