Military cooperation with Russia strengthens Malian security — top diplomat

Abdoulaye Diop also called for diversifying ties, in particular in the economy, as he said that a good relationship should be accompanied by a good trade and economic cooperation

MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. Military cooperation between Mali and Russia has enhanced security in the western African republic, Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdoulaye Diop said at a news conference following talks with Russia’s top diplomat Sergey Lavrov.

"Cooperation with Russia has contributed to ensuring security, our potential has been strengthened, and we can see results," the Malian foreign minister said. At present, he added, the Malian Army "has the capacity to protect its territory," while the republic should continue working with Russia.

Diop also called for diversifying ties, in particular in the economy, as he said that a good relationship should be accompanied by a good trade and economic cooperation.

Russia has repeatedly confirmed its intention to further boost cooperation with Bamako in the military-technical sphere.
