Finland upholds termination of interstate border agreement with Russia

The decree of the Finnish government will also enter into effect on January 24, 2024

STOCKHOLM, November 30. /TASS/. The State Council of Finland will not oppose the termination of the 2012 agreement on border cooperation with Russia after Moscow initiated this process earlier, according to the government’s website.

The Council notes that the Russian Foreign Ministry notified Finland about the termination of the agreement in a diplomatic note sent on October 25. The agreement expires 90 days after the notification, or on January 24, 2024.

"Since the agreement was terminated on the other side’s initiative, only the decree of enactment of the agreement will be canceled," the document says.

The decree of the Finnish government will also enter into effect on January 24, 2024.

On October 20, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree on the termination of the Agreement on border cooperation between Russia and Finland. The decree was published on the official legal information website.
