Hamas leader refuses to negotiate due to Israel's actions at Al-Shifa hospital — newspaper

The daily also pointed out that under the existing draft hostage release deal the militants would release the hostages in separate groups over several days

TEL AVIV, November 16. /TASS/. The leader of the Palestinian radical Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Sinwar, has refused to negotiate with Israel following Israel Defense Forces (IDF) actions at the Al-Shifa hospital in the Gaza Strip, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper has said.

According to the daily, Sinwar abruptly broke off talks with Qatari mediators on Wednesday and said he would not continue them as long as the Israeli military personnel was in Al-Shifa. Hamas has not yet provided any comment.

The daily also pointed out that under the existing draft hostage release deal the militants would release the hostages in separate groups over several days. This would give Sinwar an opportunity to release some Israelis on one day or release none on another, while the ceasefire would stay effective, the newspaper said.

On November 15, Reuters quoted an unnamed official as saying that Hamas had agreed to the general terms of a deal with Israel: the release of about 50 hostages in exchange for a three-day cease-fire in Gaza. Israel would also have to release some Palestinian women and children held in prisons and increase humanitarian aid to the enclave, the agency said. However, the agency's source said Israeli authorities had not yet agreed to the terms of the deal and were still negotiating its details.

According to Reuters' source, Qatari mediators on Wednesday were trying to broker a deal between Hamas and Israel. The arrangement being discussed has been agreed with the United States, the source said.
