Over 520 humanitarian trucks enter Gaza via Rafah overall, none with fuel — UN

It is noted that the Egyptian authorities agreed to deploy a UN technical unit, which will act in a humanitarian capacity and provide advisory support to the Egyptian Red Crescent

UNITED NATIONS, November 7. /TASS/. A total of 526 trucks carrying humanitarian aid have entered Gaza through the Rafah border crossing, but there is still no fuel among the cargoes, United Nations Secretary-General’s Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told a briefing.

"This brings the number of trucks that have entered Gaza through Rafah since October 21 to 526 and a reminder that still today no fuel has entered Gaza through Rafah," he said.

Dujarric also noted that the Egyptian authorities agreed to deploy a UN technical unit, which will act in a humanitarian capacity and provide advisory support to the Egyptian Red Crescent.

Earlier, Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said that the obstacles created by Israel and the activity of the Israeli side regarding the deliveries of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip make it difficult for the aid to reach the Palestinian enclave.

He also said that "the process of bringing aid into Gaza faces serious logistical problems imposed by the Israeli side." According to Abu Zeid, all shipments heading to Gaza must be checked at the Israeli Nitzana border crossing, and only then can the vehicles head to their destination, which lengthens the route by about 100 kilometers. Besides, the spokesperson pointed to bureaucratic hindrances from Israel.

Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 when militants from Gaza Strip-based radical Palestinian group Hamas staged a surprise attack on Israeli territory from Gaza. Hamas described its attack as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. Israel announced a total blockade of the Gaza Strip and has been delivering airstrikes on Gaza as well as some districts in Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
