UN insists on not being authorized to probe into Nord Stream case

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier that Russia does not agree with this position

UNITED NATIONS, February 15. /TASS/. The United Nations is not backing down on its statements that it is not authorized to investigate the act of sabotage on the Nord Stream system, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said at a briefing on Wednesday.

"Far be it for me to respond. I mean, I've said what I've said," he said when asked to comment on Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s words concerning the mandate.

On Tuesday, Dujarric said that the UN had no mandate to conduct an inquiry into incidents involving Russia’s Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. On Wednesday, Lavrov said that Russia disagrees with that stance.
