Macron suggests peace conference be organized to settle conflict in Ukraine

According to the French leader, a Zelensky-proposed peace plan of ten provisions is to be "a solid basis for creating a path to a peace conference

PARIS, February 9. /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron has called for organizing a peace conference on the settlement of the situation in Ukraine to achieve a just peace but has spoken against a scenario of Russia’s victory.

"We want to build peace together. A just peace for Ukraine and its people. A peace that would serve our common vision of a consolidated and united Europe. A peace that would create a space of stability and security for all," he said before a trilateral meeting with visiting Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

According to the French leader, a Zelensky-proposed peace plan of ten provisions is to be "a solid basis for creating a path to a peace conference." He stressed the necessity of a maximally broad participation of international partners in the organization of this conference and promised his Ukrainian counterpart that his country can rely on France in what concerns peace matters.

"In this war that has been unleashed several thousand kilometers from Paris, we must defend several simple and vitally important ideas. Ukraine can count on France, European partners and their allies for the sake of victory in the war. Russia cannot and must not win," he stressed.

The French leader noted that as long as Russia continues offensive actions, Kiev-supporting countries will "adjust and scale up military support" for Ukraine. He said that the meeting in Paris would address Ukraine’s "operational need." "We are ready to firmly support Ukraine to the end, to the victory and restoration of its legal rights," he added.
