WARSAW, January 22. /TASS/. The European Union is looking at imposing sanctions against Belarus, including an embargo on supplies of dual use technology, Poland’s RMF radio station said on Sunday, citing its journalist.
According to the RMF journalist, Germany and several other countries are against the idea of the total synchronization of the anti-Belarusian and anti-Russian sanctions, saying that as long as Belarus’ army is not involved in the Ukrainian conflict, sanctions against Belarus should be different from those against Russia.
The RMF journalist said that a total embargo on supplies of weapons and dual-use technology to Belarus is being looked at. So far, Belarus can import certain weapons elements from the West and then transfer them to Russia, the radio station said.
Other possible sanctions, according to RMF, may include a ban on EU exports of electronics, household appliances and luxury articles to Belarus. Sources in the European Commission told the journalist that sanctions will be imposed on Belarusian banks as Russian nationals use ATMs in Belarus to withdraw cash.
