China’s ROV for underwater mine clearance presented at Army-2022 Forum

The vehicle operates as part of the water area remote mine clearance system and is stationed on a surface ship, a China’s defense industry spokesperson told TASS

PATRIOT PARK /Moscow Region/, August 21. /TASS/. Representatives of the China’s defense industry for the first time presented a model of the EA63 remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for underwater mine clearance at the Army-2022 Forum, TASS reports.

The vehicle operates as part of the water area remote mine clearance system and is stationed on a surface ship, a China’s defense industry spokesperson told TASS.

"It is autonomous, remotely controlled using a cable," the spokesperson said. "The distance [to be reached by ROV] from the ship is 500 meters. The maximal depth is 300 meters," he noted.

The system is designed to detect and neutralize sea mines in water depth and on the bottom. An operator searches for mines by controlling the EA63 from the ship using a built-in ROV video camera and then applies special means, depending on the threat type, the spokesperson said.

"Small bombs are available [for bottom mines]," the spokesperson noted. The ROV is fitted with special scissors to cut ropes of floating mines, he added. Such vehicles are designed for deployment on board of mine countermeasures ships, the spokesperson said.
