Relocation of Syrian Constitutional Committee from Geneva being looked at — diplomat

The Russian side discussed this matter with those who can potentially organize this meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov noted

MOSCOW, June 20. /TASS/. Possible relocation of the venue for meeting of the Syrian Constitutional Committee is being looked at by the sides, Russian presidential envoy for the Middle East and African countries and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said on Monday.

"Our colleagues in various countries are aware of this intention [to relocate the venue]. We discussed this matter with those who can potentially organize this meeting. This matter is being discussed by our colleagues, first of all, by the Syrian sides, and, naturally, our colleagues in the Astana format," he said when answering a TASS question about possible relocation of the venue from Switzerland to other countries.

Russian presidential envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said earlier that Geneva has lost its neutral status and cannot any longer be a venue for the Constitutional Committee’s meetings. According to Lavrentyev, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain or Kazakhstan could be alternative venues.
