SOCHI, February 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Dmitry Chernyshenko, the head of the Sochi-2014 organizing committee, greeted the spectators of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

“Welcome to Sochi! On behalf of the entire team of the Sochi-2014 organizing committee, I greet you at the opening ceremony of the 22nd Olympic Winter Games. We have been preparing for this historic event for six years and now I am glad you will share this unique moment with us,” Chernyshenko said.

“The path to the Games was not easy but we have travelled it thanks to the professionalism of the Sochi-2014 team, the support of the International Olympic Committee and sports federations, and the unprecedented involvement of Russian citizens in the process of the Games’ preparation. We have witnessed how the entire country became an Olympic fan club. And now we are facing a task, no less important than the task of preparations of the Games - to justify the confidence vested in us,” he stressed.

“The city of Sochi, which combines present-day infrastructure and the original culture, will become the world capital of sport, respect and dialogue between people,” he said. “The opening ceremony will demonstrate the great history of the great country. It will remain in the memory as a large-scale, spectacular performance with unique scenery and technological solutions. We hope that the opening ceremony and the Olympic Games will give joy, inspiration and many breath-taking moments to millions of people.
