MOSCOW, March 13. /TASS/. Yelena Anikina, Andrei Pimashkov and Oleg Sokolov were designated as candidates for the upcoming vote to select the future head of the Russian Bobsleigh Federation (RBF), a source in the organization has told TASS.
The deadline for filing bids expired on March 10. The vote will take place during the federation’s emergencies congress in Sochi on March 20.
Anikina became the organization’s interim head on January 22, replacing former President Alexander Zubkov, who was disqualified for two years by the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) for anti-doping violations during the Sochi Olympic Games.
Pimashkov, a businessman from the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, was nominated by the local federation of luge and bobsleigh.
Sokolov headed the Russian bobsleigh team between 2010 and 2012. He was nominated to head the Russian Bobsleigh Federation in 2018, but withdrew his candidacy shortly before the vote.
Zubkov wrapped up with his sports career in 2014 and was elected to take charge of the Russian Bobsleigh Federation in 2016. He was re-elected to the post two years later. The IOC Disciplinary Commission, chaired by Denis Oswald, announced in 2017 that Zubkov was guilty of anti-doping rules violations.
The IBSF announced on January 16 its decision to suspend Zubkov from all sports-related activities until 2020.
On January 22, Zubkov announced that he temporarily resigned from his post. On February 5, he filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland’s Lausanne. The date of the hearings is yet to be set.
