Russia launches compulsory marking of soft drinks in plastics, glass

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the relevant decree of the Russian government in June 2023

MOSCOW, December 1. /TASS/. Russia has initiated compulsory marking of non-alcoholic beverages bottled in glass and polymeric packaging, with the exception of juices, fruit nectars, fresh fruit drinks and raw plant-based beverages.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the relevant decree of the Russian government in June 2023.

Marking is intended to minimize illegal turnover, the Center for Advance Technologies Development said. "This will protect consumers from poor quality products and return the comfortable competing environment to the market," the Center noted.

The next stage of marking will begin on March 1, 2024, when codes will appear on beverages in cans, including aluminum ones. Marking of juices, fruit nectars, plant milk and fruit compotes will follow from June 1, 2024, the Center added.
