MELITOPOL, February 14. /TASS/. The nonfunctional backup high-voltage power line of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) poses a potential threat to the plant’s safety of operations, ZNPP Director Yury Chernichuk said.
The ZNPP’s sole backup power line, the 330kV Ferrosplavnaya-1, was taken offline indefinitely due to the shelling of the Zaporozhye Thermal Power Plant (ZTPP) by the Ukrainian armed forces. The 330kV Ferrosplavnaya-1 power line was shut down as a precaution on February 11. The operations of the Zaporozhye NPP are currently powered by the high-voltage 750kV Dneprovskaya line.
"The absence of a backup power line creates a potential safety risk for the operation of the Zaporozhye NPP. Still, the plant’s equipment is in secure condition, and the staff are ready to react," the ZNPP’s Telegram channel quoted the director as saying.
