Putin says Hungarian PM offered Christmas ceasefire for several days

The Russian president noted that at least three times Russia agreed to "measures of this kind", including on navigation in the Black Sea and energy infrastructure

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has revealed that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban recently proposed a Christmas ceasefire in Ukraine for several days.

"As for short-term ceasefires. This is the proposal with which the Hungarian Prime Minister Mr. Orban approached me. I think Viktor will not be angry with me if I reveal at least part of our conversation. He said: ‘Could you do it? It's a Christmas ceasefire for one or two days. The enemy will not be able to do anything during these two or three days’," the Russian leader said at the combined Direct Line Q&A and year-end press conference.

The Russian president noted that at least three times Russia agreed to "measures of this kind", including on navigation in the Black Sea and energy infrastructure. At the same time, the "head of the Ukrainian regime" refused both negotiations and a ceasefire. Putin added that this time, too, he did not reject Orban's proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine and prisoner exchange, but Vladimir Zelensky did.
