MOSCOW, March 17. /TASS/. The US is trying to get the whole world to view Russia’s presidential election as illegitimate, but Moscow is combating this ploy, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Gennady Askaldovich, who serves as deputy chairman of the ministry’s commission on elections, told TASS.

"The Americans are painting a picture for the world so that it condemns our election as illegitimate. This is their main directive," he noted. "We are trying to oppose these activities; work is underway," the diplomat added.

All unfriendly countries are trying to interfere in Russia’s presidential election, Askaldovich noted. "The US is leading the way. Many [attempts] are coming from Germany," he said, when asked which countries were meddling in the election. According to Askaldovich, Germany is trying to interfere in the vote through non-governmental organizations and media outlets. "[They are seeking] to tarnish our election campaign and put our electoral process into question," the diplomat explained.
