Global South tired of West’s aggressive hegemony — Russian intel chief

"The countries of the Global South themselves are open to equal and mutually advantageous cooperation," Sergey Naryshkin said

MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. Russia’s position in favor of a multipolar world order resonates with most countries of the global South, as they are tired of the hegemony of the US-led West, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Director Sergey Naryshkin said.

"The firm stance of the Russian Federation, which upholds the principles of shaping a multipolar world order, finds a positive response in most countries of the global South, which are simply tired of the aggressive and hypocritical hegemony of a group of totalitarian-liberal regimes of the West led by the US," Naryshkin said.

"Meanwhile, the countries of the Global South themselves are open to equal and mutually advantageous cooperation," the intelligence chief added.

"In these conditions, of course, we see a growing need for specialists capable of forecasting what will happen in this or that part of the globe, in this or that region or on a global scale, based on sound knowledge of history, geopolitics, international law and international relations," he said. The Russian intelligence chief was speaking at a ceremony honoring the winners of the annual All-Russian contest of student research papers for the prize of the Razvedchik (Intelligence Operator) magazine.

At the end of the ceremony, Naryshkin suggested the event be held every year and that next year’s theme be "interaction of civilizations in the era of a multipolar world order."

The contest is aimed at bringing attention to research activities at Russian universities, promoting objective analytics and journalism and supporting patriotic youth. More than 70 student associations from over 30 regions of Russia applied to participate this year.
