Multipolar world formation to take time, Lavrov predicts

The Russian top diplomat noted that time is needed to "thoroughly document those relations" that are necessary for "democracy and justice to rule in the world"

MOSCOW, January 18. /TASS/. The process of shaping a multipolar world will be lengthy and occupy a certain historical era, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference on Russian diplomacy in 2022 on Wednesday.

"The process of shaping a multipolar world order will be long and it will take a certain historic epoch. And we are in the midst of this process," the Russian top diplomat noted.

Lavrov explained that time is needed to "thoroughly document those relations" that are necessary for "democracy and justice to rule in the world," and for the UN Charter on respecting the sovereign equality of all countries to be observed. "The UN Charter is a very good foundation. When it was approved, it indeed was a revolutionary document. Yet, unfortunately, all these right principles were perverted by the West. There was no respect on the part of the West for the principle of the sovereign equality of states, nor was there respect for the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, and the peaceful settlement of disputes. Hundreds of times after the creation of the UN, the United States used its armed forces, mostly blatantly violating the UN Charter," he added.
