MOSCOW, May 16. /TASS/. Regional divisions of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) are calling on the headquarters to hold the party’s Congress to elect a new leadership, landmark decisions will be made in the coming days, a source with the party told TASS.

"The LDPR headquarters has long been receiving proposals from the party's regionals. Activists believe that it is impossible to delay the congress any longer, the party needs a new leadership," the source said.

According to the source, "decisions crucial for the Liberal Democratic Party will be made in the coming days."

The election or early termination of the powers of the LDPR chairman and the party’s Supreme Council is the competence of the party congress. The party needs to holds the congress due to the death of its leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky. He passed away on April 6 after a long illness. After that, the party announced that they would not discuss personnel issues for 40 days. Last Sunday, on the fortieth day, a commemoration was held at the grave of Zhirinovsky at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
