HAIKOU /China/, April 23. /TASS/. The resort city of Sanya on the southern coast of Hainan Island will actively promote projects in the field of economic digitalization, Sanya Daily reported.
According to the newspaper, such a program will be implemented on the basis of the lists of priority areas published by the city authorities in July and November 2024. The transformations in the field of digital projects are aimed at creating a unified data and management network, modernizing e-government resources, maintaining urban security, and introducing smart technologies in areas such as transportation, forestry, and water management.
It is also planned to attract a larger number of key industry players, promote the accumulation of high-quality industrial resources, and adopt an investment model that not only provides economic preferences, but also creates favorable factors for business through government efforts. The development of the digital economy is noted as "a strategic choice to seize new opportunities in the next round of technological revolution".
The related high-tech segment is expected to steadily grow, provide for the expansion of promising industries and supply chains, and stimulate intensive growth based on new productive forces. Special attention will be paid to the development of artificial intelligence, which can be particularly promoted by the enterprises in Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City.
According to official estimates, more than 2,000 digital economy companies have already been registered in this strategic innovation development zone. It is expected to become a "new growth center" that will ensure the sustainable long-term development of Hainan Free Trade Port.
Sanya is one of Hainan's key economic development centers and is home to more than 1 million people. In 2024, its gross product exceeded 100 billion yuan (about $14 billion), an increase of 5%. The local government plans to develop the city into a leading financial and economic center with advanced infrastructure, where the headquarters of leading Chinese and foreign companies will be located. This dynamically developing settlement on the coast of the South China Sea, also known as a world-class resort, is being transformed year by year, attracting more and more attention from investors.
