In 2023, Russia ranked fifth among other countries and regions of the world in terms of tourist traffic to the island
HAIKOU /China/, February 5. /TASS/. The authorities of the southern Chinese province of Hainan expect an increase in the number of tourists from Russia in 2024, the provincial government's press service told TASS.
Hainan has been visited by about 16 thousand tourists from Russia since January of 2023, according to data obtained by TASS. Thus, the Russian Federation took fifth place among other countries and regions of the world in terms of tourist traffic to Hainan.
Direct flights between Russia and Hainan Province were resumed at the end of December 2023 with the opening of the Moscow-Sanya flight operated by Aeroflot Airlines. "Passengers [of this route] are mainly made up of Russian tourist groups, with a small number of passengers from China. The number of Russians visiting Hainan for tourism and recreation is expected to significantly increase this year as more direct flights open between Hainan and Russia," the press office said.
This year, Hainan authorities will continue to promote the province's tourism potential in Russia, strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Russian airlines and media, as well as improve the reception and service of Russian tourists, the press service added.
In March this year, a Hainan delegation intends to take part in the ITM tourism exhibition in Moscow, where the province will make a presentation. The plans also include organizing Hainan Tourism and Culture Week during the province's delegation's trip to Moscow to take part in the OTDYKH Leisure 2024 international tourism exhibition, the press service said.
