Hainan's Sanya sees number of recreational visits of less than 24h grow 67% in first half

HAIKOU /China/, July 21. /TASS/. The number of tourists visiting the resort city of Sanya on Hainan Island for less than a day in January-June 2023 increased 67% year-on-year to 13.27 million people. This was reported by the Sanya Daily newspaper with reference to the data published by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports of Hainan Province.

According to the department, the income received by the city because of tourists wishing this category, exceeded 47.53 billion yuan ($6.65 billion at the current exchange rate) in six months. Compared with the same period in 2022, this figure increased by 80%.

In the first quarter, the revenue that Sanya generated from such short-term tourism was 45% higher than in April-June, the department said.

Sanya is a leading Chinese resort with more than 1 million residents. In 2022, its gross product amounted to 84.71 billion yuan (approximately $12.2 billion). Its average annual temperature reaches 25.4 degrees Celsius and its coastline is over 200 kilometers long. There are 19 bays and about 40 islands suitable for tourism in the surrounding water area, all of which allow the local government to successfully develop yachting and beach tourism.
