MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. The Russian missile defense is capable of repelling massive missile strikes and intercepting group strikes by intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), head of the Bureau of Military-Political Analysis Alexander Mikhailov told TASS.
He commented an article in the Military Thought Magazine, which outlined a potential scenario of an attack on Russia and said the enemy would deliver a prompt global strike with several massive missile strikes at the government and military infrastructure.
"The missile defense will play a key role in the potential scenario. The strategic missile defense will be engaged - S-500, S-400, S-300, S-300V, S-300V4 long-range complexes capable of downing hostile bombers, ICBM reentry vehicles and warheads if the adversary uses multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles," he said.
The missile defense complexes can neutralize to the maximum the weapons of mass destruction. "We are currently providing major defense of the Moscow industrial area, which is protected by air and missile defense system. Moscow is the most protected Russian region," Mikhailov said.
Russian radars monitor takeoff of hostile strategic aviation and ICBM and intermediate-range missiles. "There is also the orbital grouping, which will warn the military-political and strategic missile force leadership about a massive launch. The Russian military doctrine calls to deliver a symmetric strategic nuclear strike at the hostile territory," he said.
