Belarus strengthens border security in western and southern directions

As part of the additional protection of the border with Ukraine, the reserves of border groups and detachments and the Defense Ministry’s units were involved

MINSK, March 2. /TASS/. The protection of the Belarusian state border has been strengthened in the western and southern directions, the country’s State Border Committee said on its Telegram channel.

"In line with the Belarusian president’s instructions, amid the escalation of the military-political situation in the region, the border security in the western and southern directions has been strengthened," the statement reads.

The state border committee reported that "as part of the additional protection of the border with Ukraine, the reserves of border groups and detachments and the Defense Ministry’s units were involved."

The border committee pointed out that amid the current situation, "a set of regime measures was being implemented to prevent possible provocations, penetration of sabotage and reconnaissance groups into the country." The committee also clarified that the personnel of the border service remained in points of permanent deployment.

Checkpoints, including those on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, on the Belarusian side are working as usual. No additional restrictions relating to the passage of persons and vehicles were introduced. "The situation on the Belarusian state border remains under control," the State Border Committee emphasized.
