NEW YORK, March 20. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump believes that his predecessor Joe Biden gave money to Ukraine like he was "just a dope."
"We’re getting a deal with Ukraine on rare earth so at least we can say we got our money back and we can do something. We’re in for $350 billion. Biden gave away money like he was just a dope, which he is—a real dope," Trump pointed out in an interview with Breitbart News.
According to him, Europe allocated $100 billion in aid to Ukraine. "The money the European nations put in is a loan. They are getting it back. We just gave them the $350 billion. So now we get our money back plus," he pointed out.
Trump stated in early February that the United States was interested in getting access to Ukraine’s rare-earth minerals. The parties were expected to sign the relevant deal on February 28, when Vladimir Zelensky arrived at the White House. However, the parties engaged in a verbal spate, with Trump and US Vice President JD Vance accusing Zeklenskt of being ungrateful and disrespectful. However, the parties announced after the March 11 US-Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia that the deal would be made in the near future, even though there was no specific timeframe.
According to the German-based Kiel Institute for the World Economy, Ukraine received 114.2 billion euros (over $123 billion) in aid from the United States between January 24, 2022, and December 31, 2024. Europe’s aid to Kiev amounted to 132.3 billion euros (more than $143 billion).
