US initiatives on Ukraine may come soon — Turkey's top diplomat

"A general framework for the agreement, based on key principles, must be established," Hakan Fidan said

ANKARA, February 5. /TASS/. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expects specific initiatives for addressing the Ukrainian conflict, including from the United States, before June, he told Anadolu Agency in an interview.

"I can see that the administration of [US President Donald] Trump is currently gathering data on this topic to make informed decisions. Reliable data is essential to maintaining the international community's trust in Trump and preventing the issue from reaching a greater impasse. We can anticipate an initiative from the US soon. Of course, a meeting between Trump and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin is necessary, but significant groundwork must be laid beforehand. A general framework for the agreement, based on key principles, must be established. Achieving this will require a strong consensus between the parties," Fidan stated.

He noted that the sides "have not yet reached the point of holding meetings." "I think the situation will be clarified one way or another by the summer. Clarity will appear by about June," the foreign minister added.
