Slovakia to discuss retaliatory measures against Ukraine over gas transit halt — Fico

The minister said that the halt of Russian gas transit was an act of "sabotage by Zelensky"

PRAGUE, January 2. /TASS/. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and his government will discuss retaliatory measures against Ukraine following the gas transit stoppage.

According to the Dennik N news portal, Fico said that the halt of Russian gas transit was an act of "sabotage by Zelensky." He confirmed that the Slovak government will discuss the transit halt next Tuesday in Brussels. After the delegation's return, retaliatory measures will be considered.

"On behalf of the party Direction - Social Democracy, I inform you that we are ready to negotiate and within the coalition to agree to stop the supply of electricity and significantly reduce support for Ukrainian citizens in Slovakia," the portal quotes Fico as saying.

On January 1, the transit of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine was completely stopped due to Kiev's refusal to extend the agreement. Earlier, Gazprom said that Ukraine's refusal deprived the Russian holding company of the technical and legal opportunities to use this gas supply route. European gas transportation operators have confirmed the completion of supplies to Austria, Italy, Moldova, Slovakia and the Czech Republic via this gas route.
