LONDON, November 12. /TASS/. Ukraine’s allies in Europe and the US, including senior Republicans, have offered advice on how to best frame proposals so that Kiev’s cooperation with Washington continues after US President-elect Donald Trump takes office, the Financial Times reports, citing sources.
According to the newspaper, "one idea would replace some US troops stationed in Europe with Ukrainian forces" once the conflict is over. The other - first devised by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham - suggests sharing Ukraine’s natural resources with its western partners, the Financial Times notes. "One person involved in the planning described the idea as ‘ABC - anybody but China’," the paper writes.
Zelensky presented his plan to Trump at a meeting in New York in September. "Trump was ‘interested’ in the two points," the newspaper adds, citing a person briefed on the meeting.
In late September, Zelensky visited the US to put forward a plan to end the conflict, which contained provisions whose implementation would depend on Washington. Kiev explained that Zelensky’s idea was to increase pressure on Russia, particularly through strikes using long-range weapons, and push for the launch of talks based on Ukraine’s so-called "peace formula." However, Washington was skeptical about the plan and Ukraine’s strikes inside Russia using Western-donated weapons were not authorized. Later, Zelensky tried to impose his "victory plan" on Ukraine’s European partners but it wasn’t received the way Kiev expected it would be.
Trump claimed during his election campaign that he would be able to quickly resolve the conflict. However, he hasn't put forward any specific proposals on the matter.
