Ukrainian gamblers lost about $10 mln daily at casinos in 2023 — web portal

Ukraine legalized gambling in August 2020

MOSCOW, March 28. /TASS/. The amount of daily losses incurred by Ukrainian gamblers at casinos came to about 40 mln hryvnias ($10.2 mln) in 2023, the Insider UA online news outlet said, citing data from the National Bank of Ukraine.

The "epidemic" of gambling losses pertained not just to Ukrainian military personnel but is characteristic of the country at large, Insider UA said, commenting on news reports appearing earlier today that nine out of ten Ukrainian servicemen have a gambling addiction. The news outlet said that Ukrainians lost about 400 mln hryvnias ($100.2 mln) in online casinos daily in 2023. This is more than 12 bln hryvnias ($305.5 mln) monthly.

Ukraine legalized gambling in August 2020. Tax receipts from gambling were said to total 10.4 bln hryvnias ($272.5 mln) in 2023, according to Verkhovna Rada (parliament) Finance Committee Chairman Daniil Getmantsev.
