EU set to approve budgetary aid to Ukraine worth 50 billion euro in January — EC president

Besides, Sweden needs to secure its national parliament’s approval for Ukraine-related decisions in line with its domestic rules of procedure, Charles Michel added

BRUSSELS, December 15. /TASS/. The European Council failed to approve the four-year program of budgetary aid to Ukraine worth 50 billion for the next four years, but hopes to reach consensus on the issue in January 2024, the Council’s President Charles Michel said.

"We’ve just finished our meeting for tonight," he said. "We will revert to this matter early next year, and we will try to get unanimity."

He said that only one country, Hungary, opposed this program.

Besides, Sweden needs to secure its national parliament’s approval for Ukraine-related decisions in line with its domestic rules of procedure, Michel added.

The European Commission on June 20 called on the EU countries to make additional contributions to the community’s budget for 2024-2027, needed for the approval of a 50-billion-euro aid program for Ukraine over the next four years and another 20 billion euros in military aid.
