All FIFA World Cup stadiums comply with fire safety rules — Emergencies Ministry

More than 30,000 Emergencies Ministry employees will provide security during the 2018 FIFA World Cup matches

MOSCOW, June 13. /TASS/. All the stadiums that will host the 2018 FIFA World Cup matches fully comply with the fire safety requirements, First Deputy Emergencies Minister Alexander Chupriyan told TASS.

"All violations at all the operating stadiums have been remedied," he said.

The State Fire Control Service also checked hotels and other facilities involved in the World Cup events ahead of the championship. "We have registered almost 380 facilities, including 12 main stadiums, as well as places of residence of the championship participants, airports, railway stations, bus stations, subway stations and ports," the first deputy emergencies minister specified.

He reported that 1,000 Emergencies Ministry employees would ensure fire safety at 12 stadiums and infrastructural facilities, including fan zones and training grounds. "Our uppermost task is to prevent large fires during the World Cup," Chupriyan said.

More than 30,000 Emergencies Ministry employees will provide security during the 2018 FIFA World Cup matches, he said.

"The task of the Emergencies Ministry branches is to provide fire safety, water safety and disaster prevention. More than 30,000 people and almost 3,000 vehicles will provide security at the World Cup matches," he specified.

Chupriyan reiterated that from May 25 to July 25 the Emergencies Ministry crews would operate in a high alert regime. He said that additional headquarters for fire and water safety control were created in each region that will host the matches, and the operational headquarters was established in the National Emergencies Management Center at the Russian Emergencies Ministry in Moscow.

He said that the preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup were carried out for many years, considering the experience of holding other international championships in Russia. "The Russian Emergencies Ministry has vast experience of providing security at massive international competitions, among them the Universiade in Tatarstan, the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi and the Confederations Cup. Plans of cooperation with other ministries and agencies were developed in each region, and exercises at heavily trafficked facilities were carried out," the Russian deputy emergencies minister specified. More than 1,200 fire tactics courses and exercises were carried out, he said.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will run from June 14 to July 15 in 11 Russian cities.
