HAVANA, March 3. /TASS/. Cuba’s Prensa Latina news agency has condemned the European Union’s restrictions against Russian media outlets, slamming them as censorship.
Prensa Latina "expressed its rejection of the censorship promoted in the European Union (EU) against Russian media RT and Sputnik, also manifested on social networks," the agency said.
"Actions taken in recent days by the community bloc and digital platforms against these journalistic organizations move away from confronting false news and deprive the information of objectivity," Prensa Latina said, citing its President Luis Enrique Gonzalez.
According to the agency, "the boycott of Russia Today and Sputnik violates the individual rights of the professionals who work in these media." Gonzales stressed that the move deprives "audiences of access to alternative news and visions to those disseminated by Western information monopolies, at a time when the conflict in Ukraine focuses the attention of the entire world."
The European Union banned the RT TV channel and the Sputnik news agency on March 2.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation based on a request from the heads of the Donbass republics. The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans to occupy Ukrainian territories and the goal was to demilitarize and denazify the country. In response, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and a number of other countries announced sanctions on Russian individuals and entities.
