MOSCOW, March 4. /TASS/. Relations between Russia and Myanmar have good potential, and Moscow attaches great importance to the visit of Myanmar Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Channel One.
"Relations are making very much progress. Very broad prospects are opening up. There is great untapped potential," he said.
According to Peskov, the scrupulous adherence to ceremonial details is due to the high level of partnership between Moscow and Naypyidaw.
"Of course, we in Russia attach great importance to this visit and look forward to continued contacts," the spokesman said.
Min Aung Hlaing came to Moscow on an official visit. His talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin have already begun. He has met with other representatives of the Russian leadership.
Russia and Myanmar have long-standing friendly relations. The countries are developing cooperation in economy, culture and tourism. Work is underway to increase the number of outlets accepting the Russian payment card Mir and expand visa-free travel. An agreement has been concluded to develop a partnership in nuclear energy. Assistance is being provided in the construction of enterprises such as an ironworks and fertilizer-making plant. The country’s prime minister noted Russia's assistance in training and equipping the Myanmar military.
