Independent hopefuls for Russian presidency need to file paperwork by December 27

It is reported that registration paperwork will be submitted by candidates to the CEC of Russia from December 27 to January 31

MOSCOW, December 8. /TASS/. Russia’s self-nominated candidates for president must submit paperwork to the Central Election Commission by December 27, while party-nominated candidates must do so by January 1, said commission member Natalia Budarina.

"Starting yesterday, a citizen of the Russian Federation, who meets the requirements as defined by the Russian Constitution, is entitled to nominate his candidacy for the office of President of the Russian Federation. No later than 6:00 p.m. Moscow time on December 27, the candidate must apply to the Russian Central Election Commission with a petition to register a group of voters created to support his self-nomination," Budarina, Central Election Commission secretary, said at the agency’s meeting.

She also said that a candidate can also be nominated by a political party.

"A party makes the decision to nominate a candidate at a party congress, also starting from December 7, and it must be submitted to the CEC of Russia not later than 6:00 p.m. on January 1," the official said.

Budarina said registration paperwork will be submitted by candidates to the CEC of Russia from December 27 to January 31.

"The CEC of Russia will have 10 days to make a decision whether to register a candidate. So no later than February 10, registration will be granted to the candidates that all of us, citizens of Russia, will then see on the ballot during the voting days," she said.

On December 7, the Federation Council passed a resolution setting the date of the Russian presidential election as March 17, 2024.
