Russia considers UN GA draft resolution on Ukraine anti-Russian — mission to UN

Polyansky recalled that an emergency session of the UN General Assembly, which was launched last year following the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, resumes on Wednesday

UNITED NATIONS, February 22. /TASS/. Russia still views the draft resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on Ukraine as anti-Russian, First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said on Wednesday.

Polyansky recalled that an emergency session of the UN General Assembly, which was launched last year following the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, resumes on Wednesday.

"It is critically important for Westerners for the sake of maintaining the illusion of allegedly universal condemnation of our country’s actions and promoting it within their countries," Polyansky wrote on his Telegram channel.

"Tomorrow’s vote (after the debate) on the GA draft resolution, which was watered down to garner as many votes as possible but still remains anti-Russian, will be the apotheosis," the diplomat said, emphasizing that Belarus’ representatives "have decided to try to balance the draft and come up with their amendments, including the prohibition to ship weapons to the conflict zone and the need to tackle the root causes of the crisis".

"We will see what they can do under the conditions of harsh Western pressure on developing states," Polyansky said.

Paulina Kubiak, a spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly, said earlier that the resolution on achieving peace in Ukraine based on the plan drawn up by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky had been submitted to the Secretariat of the UN General Assembly. Among other things, the draft resolution urges Russia to withdraw its forces from Ukraine. The document is scheduled to be debated and put to voting on February 22-23.

Zelensky put forward a 10-point peace plan at the G20 meeting last November. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Zelensky’s statements ignored the present-day reality. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the proposal by the Kiev regime to hold a peace summit in the UN was a nonsensical idea and a PR stunt by Washington. Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said Zelensky’s peace initiatives are a mockery of the notion of a peace plan.
