Eighty-two people rescued from ice floe that broke off in Russia’s Sakhalin

The Russian Emergencies Ministry said that there are no casualties

TASS, February 18. Rescuers have brought 82 fishermen to shore from an ice floe that broke off in the southern Sakhalin Region, there were no casualties, the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry said.

"The rescue operation in Sakhalin is over. Eighty-two people were evacuated and brought to shore. There are no casualties," the ministry said.

In the morning of February 18, the Russian Emergencies Ministry received information about the break-up of the ice near the village of Starodubskoye in the Sakhalin Region. According to preliminary information, 14 fishermen were on the broken-off ice floe. Later it turned out that more than 80 people remained there.
